On March 3, 2020, the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies (JFSS) hosts an international seminar to discuss “Changes of the Situation in International Relations and Security Environment in East Asia and the Response of the International Community”.
The ongoing territorial disputes in the region constitute significant hurdles to resolving tensions. First, Japan is contesting the occupation of the Takeshima Island in the Japan Sea which South Korea deprived by force in 1954. Second, Senkaku Islands is contested by China and often results in Chinese Coast Guard vessels intruding on Japan’s territorial waters in the vicinity of the islands.
At the seminar, panelists will mainly discuss issues related to rapidly changing security environment and international relations including territorial disputes involving Japan.
